Betty Boukus

Letter from the Speaker of the House

February 24, 2005

Dear Editor:

I would like to congratulate State Representative Betty Boukus on her appointment to the Mentoring Leadership Council by Governor M. Jodi Rell.

Throughout her 10 years in the Legislature, Betty has proven to be a skilled lawmaker and passionate advocate for children. Her outstanding work with school mentoring programs is but one of the examples of her commitment. Recently, Rep. Boukus was a guest panelist at a national After School Network Conference.

Connecticut House Democrats are committed to improving education by investing more in early childhood programs and by expanding after-school opportunities for children. The availability of after-school programs, particularly with our at-risk youngsters, is often the difference between choosing the right and wrong path in their lives.

I expect my friend and colleague, Betty Boukus, to help lead our caucus on these and other important education issues. As Assistant Majority Leader, Betty will play a crucial role in moving our education priorities on the House floor.

Rep. Boukus is an asset to her hometown of Plainville and the 22nd House district. I expect to work closely with her - and to rely on her instincts and expertise - as we move forward this year with legislation that will preserve and expand opportunities for youngsters.

Sincerely,

Rep. James A. Amann
Speaker of the House
Connecticut General Assembly
