"IT TOOK COURAGE TO VOTE FOR A TOUGH, HONEST AND RESPONSIBLE BUDGET"
Speaker Donovan joined Senate President Don Williams and other Democratic legislative leaders as Governor Malloy signed the earliest biennial budget in Connecticut history into law Wednesday. Speaker Donovan said the legislature improved on Governor Malloy's "great framework" presented in February, preserving funding for children, the elderly and the disabled, and for municipalities. He acknowledged the difficult choices legislators had to make to give the state fiscal stability and put Connecticut on the road to recovery.

BUDGET VOTE SET; GAS TAX INCREASE ELIMINATED
The General Assembly will vote on the 2012-2013 biennial budget early this week. The budget closely adheres to the Governor's framework, while eliminating the proposed 3 cent per gallon gasoline tax increase and including language that would require legislative action to address any gap that occurs between the labor savings and concessions total and the $2 billion placeholder for those concessions and savings.
