State Representative Juan Candelaria (D-New Haven) Vice-chair of the legislature’s Higher Education Committee, today expressed his frustration over the recent announcement by the Connecticut State University System Board of Trustees that tuition for all four state universities will increase by 6.3%. State Representative Juan Candelaria (D-New Haven), announced that paid sick leave legislation passed the Connecticut House of Representatives Thursday by a vote of 88 to 58. House Bill 6187, An Act Mandating Employers Provide Paid Sick Leave to Employees, establishes paid sick leave for employees at organizations with 50 or more employees. READ MORE

En unión a la Comisión de Asuntos Latinos y Puertorriqueños, CAUSA y una coalición de agencias Hispanas, ofrecieron una conferencia de prensa para presentar serias preocupaciones con relación a la inminente escasez de fondos y de recursos otorgados a las agencias hispanas del estado. LATINO AGENCIES FACE CLOSURES WITHOUT STATE AID
First Latino Advocacy Day held at Capitol to raise awarenessHispanics from across the state are demanding that lawmakers restore funding to agencies that provide support to thousands of under-served residents. Governor Rell eliminated the funds in her proposed budget for the next two years. Many of the agencies say they will close if they don't receive the state aid. READ MORE
