April 29, 2016I am pleased to announce that we have narrowed the achievement gap! Under the CK3LI (CT Kindergarten through 3 Learning Initiative) reading program, the Norris and Langford Elementary Schools have more than doubled the number of students meeting grade literacy level goals.

April 22, 2016On Friday, April 22, I attended the annual Reading Forum sponsored by the Connecticut Commission on Children in partnership with the Black and Puerto Rican Caucus hosted a public forum to discuss the CK3LI program, which aims to improve the reading abilities of children in kindergarten through third grade, a crucial time for developing strong literacy skills.

April 8, 2016This week, I attended a press conference to promote awareness of the Safe Haven law, which states that a distressed birth parent who is unable to care for their infant, 30 days or younger, may leave him or her with an employee at any hospital.

April 6, 2016I am proud to say that Gov. Malloy declared this past Monday, April 4, 2016, Safe Havens Awareness Day in Connecticut. It is important to promote awareness of this law as it reminds birth parents that an alternative solution to their situation exists.
