Legislative Accomplishments

Stephen D. Dargan was elected to the Connecticut House of Representatives in November of 1990 representing the 115th Assembly District in West Haven. In 1995, Steve was named co-chair of the Public Safety Committee. The committee is responsible for legislation relating to the state police, organized crime task force, state fire marshals, fire and building codes, civil preparedness, municipal police training, legalized gambling and military affairs, except veterans’ pensions. He is also a member of the Insurance and Real Estate Committee and the Executive and Legislative Nominations Committee.

Political Involvement

In 1981, Steve was elected as a fire commissioner in the city of West Haven where he served for more than twenty years. He served on the West Haven City Council from 1985-1991.

Education

Service to Community

Steve headed the Ken Strong Stadium Commission, served on the West Haven Flood and Erosion Commission and is a member of both the West Haven and Greater New Haven Umpire Associations. He is a long time volunteer and coach of baseball and basketball in the West Haven school system. He is also a volunteer in the West Haven Hook and Ladder Fire Department, as well as a member of the New York State Association of Fire Chiefs. Representative Dargan is also a member of the Muscular Dystrophy Association, the Jaycees of Connecticut, the Irish American Club and the Elks Club.
