Paul Davis

Biography

Paul Davis is in his fourth term as state representative from the 117th Assembly District. He attended New Haven public schools, graduating from Hillhouse High School in 1964. Paul went on to college at Southern Connecticut State University and was awarded a B.S. degree and state certification as a teacher of Secondary Science Education in 1968. During his college career he participated in numerous student government activities including the University’s first peer tutoring program. He was also a four year member of the varsity swim team earning All American recognition two times and serving as the team captain in his senior year.

Upon graduation he accepted a science teaching position in West Haven where he taught middle school and high school until his retirement in 2002. He has coached all levels of competitive swimming including 27 years as the varsity swim coach at Amity Regional High School. During both his teaching and coaching careers Paul served on, and chaired numerous professional committees. He received training through the Governor’s Drug Partnership and mentored more than 15 student and beginning teachers.

Representative Davis is a Past President of the Amity Coaches Association, served on the Executive Committee of the Connecticut High School Coaches Association, and chaired the Connecticut High School Girls Swimming Committee. He currently serves on the CIAC Sportsmanship Committee. In addition he has been awarded Connecticut Coach of the Year several times, was a finalist for National Coach of the Year, and in 2009 was inducted into the Connecticut High Coaches Association and Amity Alumni Halls of Fame.

In addition to his work in education and athletics, Representative Davis has many years of experience as a manager in the service industry. He is currently Executive Director of the Woodbridge Club, Incorporated a private pool and tennis club and banquet facility.

In his community, he served on the Orange Conservation Commission and is a member of the Clean Energy Task Force. He is also a member of the Platt Technical High School Citizens Advisory Council. Representative Davis currently serves as Assistant Majority Leader, Chair of the Regulations Review Committee and is a member of the General Assembly’s Environment and Education Committees. He has been recognized by many groups and organizations for his outstanding legislativework.
