IMPROVING SCHOOLS FOR OUR CHILDREN
House Speaker Chrisopher G. Donovan joined Governor Dannel P. Malloy at Meriden's Benjamin Franklin Elementary School to talk about education reform. "Everyone wants the best education for our kids," Speaker Donovan said, adding that legislative committees are already beginning to work on the Governor's "bold" reform proposals designed to close Connecticut's achievement gap and ready students for the workforce.

WE CAN MAKE A MORE PERFECT CONNECTICUT
House Speaker Christopher G. Donovan addressed the House of Representatives on opening day of the legislative session, telling members they have an opportunity to create a "more perfect Connecticut" by working together to create jobs, reform education for children, and provide needed services for seniors and those in need. "That is our charge," he said. "That is why we were chosen by our fellow citizens. I believe you are ready to fulfill that duty to Connecticut."

TASK FORCE WILL STUDY SHORELINE CONCERNS
In the wake of last year's major storms, Speaker Donovan today asked Rep. James Albis to chair a bipartisan group that will look at and make recommendations on storm impacts on homeowners and businesses along Connecticut's shoreline. The task force also will investigate the impact of climate changes on efforts to preserve shoreline communities. READ MORE

MINIMUM WAGE HIKE WILL HELP LOW WAGE WORKERS, STIMULATE ECONOMY
House Speaker Christopher G. Donovan was joined by Democratic legislators, labor and small business representatives and workers in calling for an increase in the state's minimum wage. Speaker Donovan said, "More families than ever are relying on low-wage and minimum wage jobs to make ends meet. That leaves them struggling. Raising the minimum wage now is good for Connecticut workers and good for our economy." The proposal also calls for indexing the wage with the rising cost of living. READ MORE
