ANNOUNCE PUBLIC SAFETY GRANTS FOR NORTH HAVEN Town to Receive $30,000 for North Haven Police Department State Senator Len Fasano (R-North Haven) and State Rep. Steve Fontana (D-North Haven) today announced the town of North Haven will receive $30,000 in federal stimulus money to enhance public safety. North Haven and 35 other municipalities will receive a share of nearly $840,000 in Justice Assistance Grants. The money is being released under the American Recovery & Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA). So far, 79 municipalities have received more than $2 million in stimulus crime prevention and public safety grants. READ MORE

Steve Fontana talks about the Connecticut Healthcare Partnership. This Partnership would open the State Employees Union Healthcare pool to municipalities and small businesses.
As towns and small businesses voluntarily join the pool becomes larger and the bulk purchasing power will drive health insurance costs down. The Plan has been championed and passed successfully in the CT House of Representatives by Speaker of the House Christopher G. Donovan.

As the Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus comes to town and gets set to open a series of performances in Hartford at the XL Center this evening, a group of lawmakers convening across Bushnell Park at the State Capitol voiced their concern over the abuse of elephants used in the show.
