Who controls the vaccine and how do we advocate for groups?
As your State Representative I have been pushing to get individuals with underlying health conditions, and all frontline essential workers who include teachers, administrators and support staff, grocery clerks and librarians included in Phase 1b. I have been working with my colleagues to advocate on behalf of individuals with special needs not included in the current phase for vaccines and I am encouraged that a resolution will come soon.
We have been told that these groups will soon be added. I encourage you to continue to be patient.
How many people have been vaccinated?
Demographic and population data are part of the formula for cities and towns. As of yesterday, Connecticut has vaccinated 56% of its population over the age of 75 and we remain in the top 4 states in the nation for vaccine distribution. Beginning Thursday, February 11, Phase 1b will expand to include registration by individuals between the ages of 65 and 74.
How does the stockpile flow to CT?
I understand your frustration. I am as well, but I try to balance that with the transition in the federal govt. Under the previous administration, there was no stockpile and there were no systems in place. Currently, the state anticipates receiving increasing vaccine supplies – currently we get about 45,000 doses weekly but anticipate that should rise to 60,000 first doses of the vaccine per week from the federal government. There are approximately 350,000 individuals in Connecticut between the ages of 65 and 74.
The following data represents the total number of COVID-19 vaccinations administered in Connecticut, as reported to the state as of 2/8/21:
- First doses administered: 387,174
- Second doses administered: 129,907
- Total doses administered: 517,081
The over 65+ group is being scheduled for the anticipated vaccines. We are making sure we have enough of the specific vaccines to complete second doses in the recommended time frame. When we have a handle on the next round of federal vaccine allotment, the governor will announce who is next in 1b.
