Rep. Flexer discusses legislative hearings that began today investigating the quality and effectiveness of Connecticut’s readiness and response to Tropical Storm Irene.
TROPICAL STORM IRENE HEARINGS
State Representative James Albis comments on the legislative hearings focusing on the effectiveness of the state's response to Tropical Storm Irene. Four Committees of the General Assembly are hearing from representatives of utility companies, workers, communications firms, municipal officials and the general public. Rep. Albis offers his views on the importance of the hearings as officials examine what worked and what didn't work.
SPEAKER OPENS PUBLIC HEARINGS ON IRENE
House Speaker Christopher G. Donovan opened legislative hearings on the state's preparedness for and response to Tropical Storm Irene at the Capitol Monday. He said everyone in the state was touched by Irene, and it was the legislature's responsibility to understand "what worked and what didn't in terms of how we prepared and how we responded. Too many suffered without power for too long, jeopardizing their health, safety and livelihoods. That's why it is appropriate at this time to convene legislative hearings." READ THE CT MIRROR ARTICLE

Reps. Fawcett, Johnson and Lesser have called for hearings to examine the response of utility companies to hundreds of thousands of homes that were left without power in the wake of Irene.
