FOR REGIONALISM, MUNICIPAL COST SAVINGS AND EFFICIENCIES
State Rep. Kathleen M. Tallarita (D-Enfield) and State Rep. Karen Jarmoc (D-Enfield) have been named by House Speaker Christopher G. Donovan (D-Meriden) and House Majority Leader Denise Merrill (D-Mansfield) to a new a commission that will seek to identify opportunities for more regional collaborations designed to create efficiencies and save money for municipalities. The Blue Ribbon Commission on Municipal Opportunities and Regional Efficiencies (MORE) will begin its work next Tuesday, January 19th with the goal of recommending legislation during the 2010 session.

LEARNING ABOUT HUNGER THE HARD WAY
Rep. Karen Jarmoc of Enfield spent a recent week shadowing a family that uses the Enfield Food Shelf as their source of food – and actually trying to feed herself and her teenaged daughter on the food that would be available to her from that source. She was also present at a conference on hunger in Connecticut that was held recently in Vernon for food shelf directors, school administrators and town officials to discuss the issue of hungry children in Connecticut. Legislation is slotted to be voted on in the next six months around the topic of childhood nutrition, i.e. school lunches, after school food programs and other programs like them. READ MORE
