In the 15 years since the Friends of Oswegatchie Hills formed to preserve the rocky wooded slopes along the Niantic River and fight development of the area, the group never attracted a hiking-boots-on-the-trail ally like the one who came to town Monday, nor the crowd of potential enlistees who followed him.

REP. JUTILA WELCOMES FUNDING TO INCREASE OPEN SPACE LAND IN EAST LYME
Rep. Jutila welcomed news that a $100,000 state grant to purchase 41 acres of property for use as open space land as part of the Oswegatchie Hills Nature Preserve in East Lyme is scheduled to be approved by the State Bond Commission. The Oswegatchie Hills Nature Preserve overlooks the Niantic River and is currently over 400 acres in size. Purchasing the 41-acre Bayreuther Property, which abuts the current 420-acre preserve, will bring the total preserved acreage for Oswegatchie Hills to 461 acres. READ MORE

MARINE TRADES INDUSTRY HONORS REPRESENTATIVE ED JUTILA
The Connecticut Marine Trades Association (CMTA) presented their legislator of the year award to State Representative Ed Jutila for his strong support of policies that allow recreational boating to grow in the state. The CMTA has represented the recreational boating and marine trades industry in Connecticut since 1954. Recent estimates peg the economic activity generated by boating, marinas and marine trades businesses at $7 billion annually in Connecticut. READ MORE

HOUSE PASSES REP. JUTILA'S BILL ON SAFETY AND
CERTIFICATION STANDARDS FOR THE SPRAY FOAM INDUSTRY

Rep. Jutila’s legislation, inspired by a constituent whose personal experience had convinced him that safety and certification standards should be established for the spray foam industry was passed by the House of Representatives. “This is a good example of constituent’s input at its best,” Jutila stated.
