House Clears Miller's Early Literacy Program Legislation

I led the House Thursday in a bipartisan vote to approve legislation aimed at creating a Reading Readiness Program at the State Department of Education (SDE) that will assess Alliance Districts and Commissioner’s Network schools to determine if they are reading ready and to provide adequate support to the schools as it relates to their performance and needs.

I was delighted to co-chair the fourth annual WBDC event that took place at the State Capitol on May 3. 16 presenters spoke to nearly 200 attendees. Women-owned businesses are growing at a rate five times faster than male-owned businesses. It is important that we support these amazing entrepreneurs and give them the tools they need to thrive.

I am honored and pleased to once again participate with my colleagues and several other key players at the CT K-3 Reading Model Forum at the Legislative Office Building. All the partners involved, including the Black and Puerto Rican Caucus, the Commission on Women, Children and Seniors (CWCS) and the Commission on Equity and Opportunity (CEO) have worked together to support and ensure the success of this program.
