Biography
State Representative Patricia Billie Miller, a Stamford native, was first elected to the Connecticut General Assembly in 2008 to represent Stamford’s 145th Assembly District. Pat won re-election in 2010 and is now serving her second term in the House.
Pat was appointed to serve as Vice Chairman of the powerful Appropriations Committee by Speaker of the House Christopher G. Donovan at the end of 2010. In addition to her Vice Chairmanship, Pat serves as a member of the Education and Housing committees.
Last year, Pat fought to enact sweeping education reforms to help address Connecticut’s achievement gap by allowing parents to have greater influence in their children’s education, particularly when it comes to failing schools.
The new law will help ensure that all of Connecticut’s children have access to a top quality education by raising academic standards, improving the supply of school leaders and establishing an expanded data system to track students’ academic growth, from pre-kindergarten through high school graduation, while protecting the privacy of their records.
Teacher and administrator evaluations will now be linked to student academic growth—so that, for the first time, evaluations reflect how much students learn—and schools can see the best ways to improve instruction. High school graduation requirements have also been restructured to ensure students have the English, math, and science skills needed to succeed in college or the 21st century workplace.
In addition to work on education issues, Pat has been a strong proponent of campaign finance reform and strengthening domestic violence laws.
Prior to her election to the legislature, Pat worked at the Stamford Housing Authority for over 25 years and served on the Stamford Board of Representatives.
An alumnus of Low Heywood High School in Stamford, Pat attended Moravian College in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics. Pat is the proud mother of two daughters and two grandchildren. Pat and her husband, Bobby, live in the Westside neighborhood of Stamford.
