Elaine was a great friend to all of us, her beautiful smile and great sense of humor will be missed. Our condolences go out to her husband Justin, her children, and her entire family.
Dear Windsor and Bloomfield Friends,
It is with sadness that I inform you of the passing of an outstanding legislator, good friend, and caring person, Representative Elaine O'Brien.
After a very long and courageous battle with cancer, Elaine passed away early this morning. I had a chance to see her three weeks ago at Mass. General, and a day ago at the Hebrew Health Care in West Hartford where we talked nonstop.
Elaine never once talked about herself. She only wanted to know how others were doing, and to discuss issues at the Capitol and in her District. She was so brave, driven and optimistic. During her last few weeks, Elaine kept saying how lucky she was, to have have such a supportive family and so many friends. She cherished her very large family and her many friends. She missed being at the Capitol and at work. And especially to her constituents and friends in Windsor, Elaine never stopped thinking about you.
Our prayers and condolences are conveyed to Elaine's wonderful and committed husband Justin Donnelly, and her entire family.
Elaine was a former pilot and flew the skies regularly. May her last flight take her to a better place where Elaine can find eternal peace and happiness.
Elaine O’Brien was more than a colleague—she was a close friend. The Connecticut General Assembly lost one of its very best. She was a real fighter for her district. Even while battling illness, she continued to meet with her legislative aide to go over her constituents’ priorities for this legislative session. Elaine never lost her optimism or stopped smiling as she fought a courageous battle. Please keep Elaine and her family in your thoughts and prayers.”
House Majority Leader Joe Aresimowicz
One of the most genuine people in the Connecticut General Assembly. I never had a tie she did not like. I will miss her dearly. My thoughts and prayers to the family.
I got know her all too briefly but she was always thoughtful and helpful to me. I'll miss her.
This is so very sad. Elaine was a lovely, thoughtful, decent, committed legislator and human being, and I will miss her. She fought hard. My heart goes out to her family.
I am really going to miss her. She was someone with a fresh perspective and common sense and just very genuine.
Elaine was a wonderful person. I could bounce ideas off her as she was always a voice of reason. I will miss my neighbor on the fourth floor!
