JOBS & ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT (MY NUMBER ONE PRIORITY)

I continue to meet with public and private sector leaders and bioscience experts from Yale, UConn and Wesleyan in a pro-active push to help Connecticut achieve its goal of hosting a Bioscience Center that is second to none. Governor Malloy just announced a major triumph. The Jackson Laboratory – a force in the fast growing field of personalized medicine—will build a $1.1 billion facility here that creates 800 construction jobs, 600 research-related jobs and 6200 spinoff job opportunities. Bioscience will help build our future while saving lives.

I also supported new laws that:

• Expand our reinvestments in manufacturing

• Save our Vo-tech schools which teach the in-demand skills that put people
  to work

• Encourage large companies to add jobs or move to our state under the
  "First Five" program

• Provide student loan reimbursements for green-tach degree holders after two years employment in the field
