HARTFORD STATE REPRESENTATIVES NAMED TO COMMISSION TO IDENTIFY OPPORTUNITIES FOR REGIONALISM, MUNICIPAL COST SAVINGS AND EFFICIENCIES
State Representatives Kelvin Roldan (D-District 4), Marie Kirkley-Bey (D-District 5), Hector Robles (D-District 6) and Doug McCrory (D-District 7) have been named by House Speaker Christopher G. Donovan (D-Meriden) and House Majority Leader Denise Merrill (D-Mansfield) to a new a commission that will seek to identify opportunities for more regional collaborations designed to create efficiencies and save money for municipalities. The Blue Ribbon Commission on Municipal Opportunities and Regional Efficiencies (MORE) will begin its work next Tuesday, January 19th with the goal of recommending legislation during the 2010 session. Latino Legislators led by State Representative Andres Ayala (D-Bridgeport) together with a group of leaders from Hispanic agencies hosted a press conference today to oppose a plan by Governor M. Representative Kelvin Roldan (D-Hartford) announced House passage of HB 6444, An Act Concerning Automobile Insurance, which prohibits insurers from using a person’s credit history as a determinant for renewal of a policy. Representative Roldán authored legislation earlier in the session to end the practice. READ MORE

Representative Kelvin Roldán (D-Hartford) and Senator John Fonfara (D-Hartford, Wethersfield) testified in front of the Higher Education and Employment Advancement Committee in favor of House Bill 5227, An Act Allowing Towns to Create Scholarship Funds Through Municipal Bonds, which they referred to as the Connecticut Promise Zones. They were accompanied by Mayor Eddie A. Perez, Councilman James Boucher and Councilman Matt Ritter from the City of Hartford.
