As leaders of the Black and Puerto Rican Caucus, our vice chair, Rep. Brandon McGee and I issued a statement in solidarity with students across our nation demanding action relating to gun violence. 

Today, members of the Black and Puerto Rican Caucus that I am honored to lead, along with our vice-chair Rep. Brandon McGee, - held a press conference at the State Capitol to discuss our 2018 legislative priorities.

The Appropriations Committee heard presentations from a number of state agencies about the Governor’s proposed adjustments. I wanted to share my exchange with one of the presenters, Education Commissioner, Dianna R Wentzell about displaced Puerto Rican students funding.

As chair of our Black and Puerto Rican Caucus, I wish to thank each of my colleagues, advocates and constituents from across the state that came to share their concerns and policy priorities with us during our public forum in Hartford. Civic engagement and participation are the first steps to achieving the change we are seeking and your input is extremely valuable. We will soon be offering an update on what we learned and share this year's legislative priorities with the public. Again thank you!

The legislature's Black and Puerto Rican Caucus will be hosting a public forum in Hartford on Tuesday, February 20, to discuss ideas and concerns about pressing policy issues to help draft their 2018 legislative priorities.

I was proud to join Secretary of the State Denise W. Merrill, many of my colleagues and community organizations to announce a voter registration drive to focus on registering Puerto Rican families who have resettled in Connecticut in the wake of the devastation created by Hurricane Maria.

After months of investigation, the State's Attorney's office released a report indicating that Officer James Boulay’s use of deadly force was justified in the May 9 shooting of 15-year-old Jayson Negron. Here is my statement:

As some of you may know, the flu season outbreak has hit our state with several hospitalizations and deaths associated with influenza since early December. In response to this outbreak, the State Department of Public Health (DPH) has announced a statewide influenza vaccination clinic for those residents who have not gotten their flu vaccine yet.
