Minimum wage workers are moving closer to a living wage. The House approved House Bill 5004 to increase the minimum wage incrementally over the next few years to $15 in 2023.

In this series of videos, I talk about the 2020 census and the importance of participating and making sure to be counted. I joined with House and Senate Chairs of the Insurance and Real Estate Committee Representative Sean Scanlon and Senator Matthew L. Lesser, Insurance Commissioner Andrew N. Mais and representatives from the insurance industry to announce the implementation of Spanish language version of insurance producer licensing exams. Beginning on October 1, 2019, insurance producers will have the option of taking licensing examinations in Spanish.

Protecting the residents of our state from discrimination in the health insurance market is one of my top priorities and I’m very happy to report that we are continuing to make progress on that issue this legislative session.

The $115 million financing for the construction of a new Bassick High School remains on track. I’m very happy to report that today my colleagues on the Finance, Revenue and Bonding Committee unanimously voted to approve legislation authorizing $90.8 million in state bond funding – about 80 percent of the total project cost.

The April 15th deadline to file your state and federal income taxes is fast approaching.

Recently the state took another step closer to a $15 minimum wage after the legislature’s Labor and Public Employees Committee moved three bills concerning a minimum wage increase out of committee.

We had another successful Latino Advocacy Day at the State Capitol – the sixth so far! My thanks to the Hispanic Federation, State and Federal Elected Officials and everyone that attended and had a hand in making this event so great.
