Veterans put their lives on the line for our country and, as a small way to say “thank you for your service,” the House of Representatives unanimously passed a bill that would support Veterans who have been disabled during service.

Paid time off was expanded in the House. House Bill 5005 allows for the accrual of paid leave, up to 40 hours each year, for those working at least 120 days annually. Businesses that already offer paid time off are exempt.

I was thrilled to join several Latino colleagues and the Coalition of Connecticut Puerto Rican Parades and Festivals at the State Capitol this week, to announce the events planned for our beloved Puerto Rican Parades across the state this year.

As utility service shutoffs for non-payment will start again on May 2, the state’s Consumer Counsel is warning residents about a possible scam targeting utility customers whose bills are overdue.

Since the COVID-19 pandemic began, street takeovers have become a national issue, including here in Connecticut. This cannot become the new normal.

LiveGirl, Inc. serves thousands of girls in grades 5 through college age annually in free-of-charge innovative leadership development and mentoring programs. I was pleased to welcome some of these young women to Hartford for LiveGirl Day at the Capitol last week.

Early voting options are now available thanks to the work of the Connecticut General Assembly last session, and later this month, voters in the state will take to the polls to vote in the 2024 presidential primary.
