USURIOUS PREDATORY LENDING HAS NO BUSINESS HERE
Recent loan solicitations targeting Connecticut residents with interest rates as high as 400% by the Otoe-Missouria tribe of Oklahoma, and deceptive attack mailings funded by a dark money Tea Party-aligned SuperPAC aimed at our Governor, prompted me to join the House Chair of the legislature’s Banking Committee and leaders of the Mohegan and Mashantucket Pequot tribes in denouncing these illegal predatory tactics.

The cost of higher education has sadly become out of reach for most students without taking out personal loans. The entire loan process, terms, and responsibilities can be overwhelming, particularly for young people, and that is why it makes sense to adopt protections with a student loan bill of rights.

PROTECTING RESIDENTS OF CONTINUING CARE RETIREMENT COMMUNITIES
Seniors are looking for, and deserve, peace of mind when they make a major life decision to move to a continuing care retirement community, such as the Whitney Center in my hometown of Hamden. By requiring these facilities to disclose their financial status, residents will be better protected and the state can act to help remediate potential problems.
