NEW PANEL TO GIVE BUSINESS PERSPECTIVE ON STATE POLICIES
I participated in a meeting of an important new state panel called the Commission on Economic Competitiveness which is charged with analyzing how state policies impact the business community, and offer legislative recommendations to promote economic growth. READ MORE

I joined 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders at Spring Glen Elementary School in my hometown of Hamden to celebrate Constitution Day, and speak with our future leaders about our democracy.
MEET THE LEADERS FEATURES DISCUSSION ON CRIMINAL JUSTICE REFORM & BUSINESS CLIMATE
I was joined by my colleague State Rep. William Tong of Stamford for a taping of Cablevision’s Meet the Leaders show to discuss criminal justice reform and Connecticut’s business climate. Rep. BUSINESS COMMUNITY HAS INPUT IN SHAPING STATE BUDGET
Last month I was invited to submit an article for the Greater New Haven Chamber of Commerce Capitol Report newsletter. I pointed out that by reducing property taxes, investing in our transportation system, and listening to the concerns of business, this budget begins to set Connecticut on a more stable path toward future economic growth.

I was part of a major win for the environment today as 1,000 acres of open space spanning Essex, Old Saybrook, and Westbrook known as “The Preserve” became protected public land. READ MORE
QUINNIPIAC UNIVERSITY IN HAMDEN WILL HAVE TO PAY TAX ON HOMES RENTED TO STUDENTS
“I’m very thankful for Speaker Sharkey and the Hamden delegation’s leadership and support in getting this bill passed to begin getting Quinnipiac to pay their fair share toward the expenses incurred by their host community of Hamden,” Hamden Mayor Curt Leng said.

EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES ENHANCED FOR ENGLISH LANGUAGE LEARNERS
At the Center for Latino Progress’ Champion Award Breakfast last week, I was recognized, along with my colleague Rep. Juan Candelaria of New Haven and former Rep. Kelvin Roldan of Hartford Public Schools, for playing a small role in helping get legislation passed that will help shrink the achievement gap for the 30,000 thousand English Language Learner students in Connecticut schools.
