The students are the first scholarship recipients of the East Haven Unity Fund and were congratulated by Governor Malloy when they visited his office with friends and family.

On May 23, the students were honored in ceremonies at East Haven High School along with other scholarship winners. Ms. Cintron will attend Albertus Magnus College and Ms. Torres will attend Sacred Heart University.

The Unity Fund was established by Michael And Jackie Albis to recognize outstanding Latino students in East Haven. Many East Haven residents and neighbors have contributed to the scholarship fund.

Their son is James Albis, a Democrat, serving his first term in the General Assembly, who joined the students in the Governor’s office.
