A Successful Opioid Roundtable Discussion

February 22, 2019

Lt. Governor Susan Bysiewicz and I hosted an Opioid Roundtable Discussion to discuss the impact of opioid on families and communities across Connecticut. It was a successful event where we had a productive conversation on ways to address the opioid epidemic.

This legislative session, my colleagues and I are taking firm action on this firm public health crisis. I have co-sponsored the following bills that aim to combat the opioid epidemic our state faces.

  1. HB 5524: An Act Increasing the Penalties for the Sale of Fentayl
  2. HB 6131: An Act Requiring Transportation to a Treatment Facility which provides Medical Triage or to a Hospital after Administration of an Opioid Antagonist.

I would like to thank the Bethel Police Department for hosting us and to everybody who attended this important discussion. First Selectman Matt Knickerbocker and State Sen Julie Kushner also joined us, which was a pleasure. We learned a lot from effected families, law enforcement, Danbury Hospital, and advocacy groups among others.

I am looking forward to taking a step forward with these legislative initiatives to protect our state.
