Breaking the Chains of Puerto Rico's Debt

March 22, 2017

A great turnout on a frigid day in downtown Hartford to show support for the people of Puerto Rico. Representatives Geraldo Reyes and Matthew Lesser joined me in calling attention to Puerto Rico's plight.

The commonwealth is crippled with public debt, causing schools to close, limiting access to health care and placing workers' pensions at risk. Banks are largely to blame for Puerto Rico's debt crisis and we called on the financial institutions to cancel the debt rather than take advantage of the island's citizens.
