Gresko Takes Course On Fire Operations

April 11, 2016

State Rep. Joe Gresko has completed Fire Ops 101, a half-day training exercise at the Hartford Fire Department Training Facility. The exercise is designed to give elected officials a first-hand glimpse of what a day in the life of a firefighter is like.

With the help of professional firefighters, Gresko donned full firefighter gear and rotated through several live action scenarios such as search and rescue in a smoke-filled room, using the Jaws of Life to cut off a car door in a simulated motor vehicle accident, and extinguishing an actual fire inside a training building.

“Even though this course gave me just a glimpse of what firefighters go through on a daily basis, at the end of the day I had a much greater appreciation for their service. I am extremely grateful to have had the chance to experience a fraction of what firefighters do for us to keep us safe,” Gresko said.
