What's Our Rep Been Up To?
I was privileged to participate in the Chelsea Groton Bank HQ reopening! The renovations to their building in Groton is amazing! A big thank you to our community bank for their generous donation to the Groton Food Locker! |
I spent a wonderful afternoon attending the City of Groton’s Black History Month Celebration alongside community leaders this week! |
I had the honor of joining the Major Gifts Meeting at the Naik Family Branch of the Ocean Community YMCA in Mystic this week. It was a pleasure to meet with a small group of community volunteers who tirelessly support the YCares Financial Assistance Program.
I shared a personal anecdote about receiving swimming lessons through Groton Parks & Recreation at the Mystic Oral School during my childhood. Since its closure, many children in our district lack access to swim instruction, which is concerning given the steady increase in sea level rise affecting every neighborhood in our coastal community as a whole.
Luckily, the YMCA has filled this gap in recent years. During my time on the Groton Town Council, we allocated $20,000 of ARPA funds to provide swim lessons for Groton children who need financial assistance at the YMCA. |

Millions Approved for Home Heating Assistance |
On Wednesday, we approved $17 million in additional cold weather heating assistance funds – many residents and families who receive assistance through the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) or Operation Fuel will have access to funds to ensure they can heat their homes through the cold weather season.
As your State Representative, it is my responsibility to stand up for my constituents. This funding ensures that none of our neighbors must choose between paying their bills or freezing.
I am committed to enhancing the safety and quality of life for all residents, and I will continue to do so throughout this legislative session. |

A CT Black History Month Moment |
How can we celebrate Black history if we never learn it? In 2020, Connecticut became the first state in the nation to require high schools to provide courses on Black and Latino studies, becoming a national model for other states.
The development process was guided by a 150-member advisory group comprised of educators, administrators, higher education professors, and scholars, national researchers and historians, representatives from education and community organizations, and studies and families. The group was organized into nine committees with specific tasks. |
