$1 Million Grant for Warner Theatre

September 13, 2018

State Representative Michelle Cook (D-Torrington) is pleased to announce the expected approval of funds for improvements to Warner Theatre when the State Bond Commission meets next week for a special meeting on Thursday, September 20th.

“The Warner Theatre is a staple not only in Torrington, but in the Northwest corner region,” Rep. Cook stated. “This historical landmark has been an integral part of Torrington since 1931, and improvements are needed. I am proud to have led the effort in securing this funding and grateful to the governor for prioritizing this grant request.”

Warner Theatre is expected to receive $1 million for capital improvements that include a new roof among other priorities.

Rep. Cook said, “This investment will significantly boost the initial phase of renovations that without a doubt will help to ensure its longevity, not only as one of our finest entertainment venues, but as a hub for commerce. Our theatre welcomes over 100,000 patrons annually with diverse performances and educational opportunities that our community has come to depend on. By maintaining its vibrancy, we are also maintaining a partnership with local businesses. As patrons see a show, they also dine in our downtown generating foot traffic on our main streets which is extremely important to our economy!”

Warner Theatre, a mixed-use performing arts center, is located on Main Street in Torrington operating in and serving the community’s diverse cultural needs.
