National Work Zone Awareness Week

April 9, 2019

This week is National Work Zone Awareness Week and I wanted to remind everyone to "Obey the Orange." Department of Transportation studies found that the top reason why cars crashed in work zones is because vehicles follow too closely.

As soon as you come across orange barrels, cones, lights or signs, prepare to slow down and leave extra room between you and the car ahead of you and move over a lane if possible.

Connecticut has a “following too closely” and a “move over” law - drivers must slow down and move over one lane if they see emergency vehicles and tow trucks stopped on the shoulder of a highway with their lights flashing. Fines for breaking the law start at $181.

For your safety, and the safety of other drivers and DOT workers, do not exceed the speed limit, drive too fast for conditions or follow too closely.

Stay safe and enjoy the increasingly good weather!
