Winter Heating Assistance Program

December 5, 2016

This morning's weather was a gentle reminder of New England weather and the need to ensure we're all kept warm over the next couple of months. We could be facing another very difficult winter, particularly in our region of the state and according to the Department of Social Services, 1 in 5 Connecticut residents cannot afford to pay for heat.

As a record number of residents are anticipated to apply for assistance, you may want to consider seeking information about this program and applying for aid. Should you be found eligible, I would urge area residents who qualify for the state’s winter heating assistance program to consider enrolling as soon as possible.

Households eligible for the winter heating program may also be eligible to receive weatherization assistance. This can help conserve energy and lower heating bills.

Eligibility requirements, updated poverty guidelines and application sites can be obtained by calling Infoline at 2-1-1 or DSS Energy Services Unit at 1-800-842-1132 or online.
