PILOT stands for Payment In Lieu of Taxes. Many properties are exempt from property taxation, and PILOT reimburses the City for part of the lost revenue. The two main PILOT programs are (1) for State property - like CCSU - and (2) for private colleges and hospitals - like New Britain General Hospital and the Hospital for Special Care.
