After
years of working on property tax reform, I am pleased that we
succeeded in making it a "front burner" issue.
And there
was some
progress....
We
won an increase in the
Property Tax Credit to $500.
(Gov.
Rell proposed eliminating the credit.)
This is a
$500 credit residents can take against their state income tax as a
reimbursement for property taxes paid on cars or home.
Unfortunately,
Gov. Rell stopped the plan I supported to make the
Property Tax Credit refundable. This would have
given seniors and others with modest incomes and high property taxes
up $500
back from the state as a
reimbursement for the property taxes they paid.
Increasing
the Property Tax Credit, and making it refundable, is a good way to
provide property tax relief and advance property tax reform.
That's why I want
to fight for this, again,
next year... or for any plan that works to reform property taxes and
relieve the burden of this unfair tax system.
And
you can help....

I
was pleased
to
vote for an
$80 million
increase
in
state funding
to keep property taxes down and fund
local services,
like education.
