In
the years before John
Rowland was forced from
office amid a growing
corruption scandal, he took
an action that undermines
state law and could cost
Connecticut and American
jobs.
Specifically,
he signed a letter to the
U.S. Trade Representative
that allows so-called
"free trade"
agreements to overrule
state law that defines how
taxpayer money should be
spent. With more and
more skilled jobs being
"outsourced" to
low-wage workers in other
countries, ex-Gov.
Rowland's decision could
take away Connecticut's
ability to ensure that
taxpayer money is spent at
employers that are located
in or near to Connecticut.
Going
a step farther, I support
legislation designed to
prevent companies paid with
Connecticut taxpayer money
from using that money to
outsource jobs outside the
U.S.
