Rep. Haddad Recognizes the Food Service Staff of Mansfield Public Schools as Community Heroes on School Lunch Hero Day

May 1, 2020

Mansfield, Conn. - State Representative Gregory Haddad (D-Mansfield) recently issued a call for nominations of individuals in Mansfield who are going above and beyond, working to help the community through the challenges of social distancing under Covid-19.

Today's honorees are the Mansfield School system’s cafeteria staff. Appearing in the attached photo are Linda Clark, Janet Adamcik, Suzie Sotzing, Darlene Dodge, Stephanie Richard, Deb Mongeau, Christine Coleman, Lorretta Rich, Darlene Gottlieb and Janice Mills. Additional staff, who Rep. Haddad is recognizing today, include Terry Glaude-Boucher, Julia Jenkins and Katie Gagne.

"Our food service workers have continued to serve the Mansfield community through the COVID-19 pandemic, providing crucial support to families who face financial strains under social distancing," Rep. Haddad said. "School lunch staff are on the front lines of the crisis and their commitment has been invaluable in helping to keep our community going. While school children are learning at home, they’ve been busy making meals and distributing them to families to ensure that no kid goes hungry."

With May 1, 2020 signifying School Lunch Hero Day, Superintendent of Mansfield Public Schools Kelly Lyman has been requesting that residents in the broader community send a thank you message or card to Foodservice@mansfieldct.org.

"This day our schools often show their appreciation to the staff in the cafeterias who ensure they are well fed," Superintendent Lyman wrote. "Our food services staff have certainly been heroes this year! Three times a week they provide meals to over 100 Mansfield families at five distribution sites. Rain or shine, they have been handing out breakfast and lunch to keep our children fed."

Rep. Haddad is still accepting nominations for community heroes. Those who have a nominee in mind can send in a photo, name, and a few sentences about why they are nominating a community hero to Gregory.Haddad@cga.ct.gov.

Previous honorees include, Dr. Neil Moynihan and Louis Goffinet.
