Celebrating the 160th Anniversary of the 29th CT Colored Regiment's Civil War Return to Hartford

To mark the 160th anniversary of the 29th Connecticut Colored Regiment's return home from the Civil War, there will be a memorial walk on Saturday, November 22, starting at 9 a.m. The event, which was organized by Alex Breanne Corporation, in collaboration with Connecticut's Old State House, will follow the same route the soldiers marched during the Hartford parade of 1865. 

Opening ceremonies, 9 a.m., Old State House, 800 Main Street, Hartford
A reception will begin at 11:30 a.m.

After the opening ceremony, a walk to commemorate the regiment's 1865 parade route around the city of Hartford will take place starting at approximately 9:30 a.m. The 29th CT Colored Regiment flag will be carried along the route.

Attendees are traveling from Colorado, Virginia, Maryland, New York, and Massachusetts.

Chris Barlow's "The 29th Connecticut Colored Regiment and the Fight for Freedom" documentary will be screened at the Old State House, 800 Main Street, for those who return after the first mile and/or those waiting for the walkers to return.

Descendants will be identified in a way that honors and distinguishes them.
