Statewide Water Plan Open For Public Review

July 31, 2017

When I began serving as Simsbury’s State Representative, and upon learning of an environmentally unsound plan to divert water from the Farmington River, I was very surprised to find out that Connecticut had no statewide water plan.

I immediately got to work with experts in the field and directed the WPC to prepare a state water plan by July 1, 2017, replacing the state's long-range water resources management plan, which was never developed.

Water panel discussion can be viewed here.

The WPC has opened a public review period to give Connecticut residents, businesses, and other stakeholders an opportunity to provide feedback before it is finalized early next year. Interested parties will have an opportunity to review the draft plan and provide the group with their comments through November 20, 2017.

The plan can be reviewed at

I encourage everyone to visit the website above and provide feedback so as many voices as possible are heard on this critical issue. We have seen droughts affect a number of states throughout the country and, while we have been fortunate in Connecticut so far, we must be prepared for any water supply related eventuality.
