Legislative Update for Sept. 18, 2025

September 18, 2025

I took part in the Commission on Women, Children, Seniors, Equity and Opportunity Forum on hunger and food insecurity in Connecticut.

Please see the clip below on my closing comments during the discussion.

Many of my colleagues and I have said for years that it is unacceptable for children to go hungry in one of the wealthiest nations in human history. We must continue to work to correct this policy violence. I stand with advocates and fellow legislators to eliminate this problem.

Please see below for more on CWCSEO listening sessions near you.

Retirement Symposium

Yesterday I also attended the Planning for Retirement Symposium that Comptroller Sean Scanlon convened yesterday a.m. at Quinnipiac.

I am proud to have championed our historic MyCTSavings auto-enrollment State of Connecticut 457 retirement Plan for employees of companies small and large, who do not already have an employer-offered Roth equivalent. We were the first of 4 states to offer in 2022, expanded this past session to employees of schools and other institutions, now 14 other states are joining us in helping their workers save for a safe and secure retirement, regardless of company size or wages.

Combating Addiction

I was honored to participate in last night’s screening of the award-winning “Tipping the Pain Scale” documentary and the panel discussion with filmmakers and community leaders at Joel Barlow High School auditorium.

I am eager to find ways to share these stories of hope, addiction and the communities we see ourselves in today as we change the stigma, our policies around mental and behavioral health parity and harm reduction. I was proud to join Sen. Saud Anwar in reflecting on this powerful evening.

Peaceful Protests

It's always a welcome sight to see my constituents engage in their First Amendment right to peacefully protest their government (this time on Route 7).
