Session to Begin on Jan. 8

January 6, 2025

I am so pleased so many of you have already reached out and have been meeting with me to propose legislation that I am submitting per your suggestions for the 2025 session, which begins Wednesday.

I am proud to be bringing guests from our district — including Chloe Caplan, a political science major at Vassar College — for the swearing-in and Governor’s address. You may watch it all here on CT-N!

As always, I will continue to work tirelessly in passing meaningful legislation to protect workers, especially our essential and service workforce, as well as the members of our state's older population and the care community.

I look forward to engaging with you and many others in the 135th district and discussing our legislative priorities. As you know, I'm deeply committed to addressing the issues that affect the district's residents as well as members of our state's most vulnerable population.

Those issues include the following:

  • Housing and homelessness. The number of unhoused people in Connecticut has risen sharply -- by 14% -- since 2022. One unhoused person is unacceptable; having nearly 5,500 homeless people in Connecticut is unconscionable.
  • High cost of energy. I heard loud and clear your concerns about soaring energy costs. At my request, the House Speaker assigned me a fourth committee -- Energy and Technology -- to help create more accountability, reduce rates and smooth the transition to renewable energy.
  • Workers and the elderly. I am also an enthusiastic member of the Aging Committee, the Labor and Public Employees Committee, and the Human Services Committee. I will continue to work tirelessly in passing meaningful legislation to protect our workers that are the true engines of our economy, and build on the improvements to our services to our neighbors with disabilities, elders and those most at risk.
