Updates from State Rep. Gregg Haddad for July 2, 2026

July 2, 2026

In many ways, America at 250 years old is very much like America in its infancy: an imperfect country that has been gifted the tools to improve itself, and whose best qualities lie in the hope and promise that its reality will one day more closely reflect the ideals set forth in its founding documents. I believe in those ideals and I also believe in our ability and willingness to do the work to bring freedom, opportunity, and fairness to everyone.

I wish everyone a happy, joyful and peaceful 4th of July.

Hot Weather Protocol Activated

The weather forecast calls for extreme heat and humidity in the coming days. Please take precautions during summer periods of high temperatures and humidity. Cooling centers are opening statewide, and you can dial 211 to find where they are. Take care of yourself by drinking plenty of fluids, wear loose, lightweight clothing, and stay indoors.

In Mansfield, these facilities are air-conditioned and available to you this week as cooling centers during business hours:

  • The Mansfield Community Center is open 5:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. during the week. and until 4 p.m. Sunday if you need a cool space. (CLOSED this Saturday.)
  •  The Mansfield Senior Center is open 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday. (CLOSED this Friday.)
  •  Mansfield Public Library is also open 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday, and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday, Wednesday,  (CLOSED this Friday and Saturday.)
  •  The Mansfield Library Express, located  at Nash-Zimmer Transportation Center on Royce Circle in Downtown Storrs, is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Thursday this week (CLOSED this Friday and Saturday.)

If Town facilities are closed, consider finding respite from the heat by visiting a movie theater, the Eastbrook Mall, local restaurants or other stores which are air conditioned.

Please stay safe, and reach out to the Mansfield Human Services Department 860-429-3315, or dial 211 with questions during this extreme heat.
