Buses Will Replace Train Service on the Waterbury Branch Line

Commuters in the Greater Waterbury Area need to prepare for a huge change to their daily routine.

Starting Monday, July 20, substitute bus service will replace all trains on the Metro-North Waterbury Branch Line through May 31, 2027 as the state undertakes major improvements to several stations and rail infrastructure.

While this change may be an inconvenience, it will give state crews an opportunity to complete several major projects at the same time, including station upgrades in Derby-Shelton, Ansonia, Beacon Falls, and Seymour, along with bridge, signal, and other infrastructure upgrades between Stratford and Bridgeport where the Waterbury Branch Line connects to the New Haven Line.

By completing these efforts together, the state expects to save taxpayers more than $47 million and complete the Waterbury Branch Line improvements approximately one year sooner.
