I am thrilled to share that the City of Waterbury has lifted the Boil Water Notice, meaning more than 15,000 homes and businesses can again safely use tap water for drinking, cooking, food preparation, brushing their teeth, bathing, and all other household purposes.
Residents are encouraged to run their faucets for a few minutes to help flush their homes’ plumbing system with fresh water.
The Boil Water Notice was issued after two water main breaks last week on Tompkins Street that disrupted water service. Since then, the Water Department has completed extensive repairs, restored service, flushed the distribution system, and collected water quality samples to ensure the drinking water meets all safety standards.
I am deeply grateful to Mayor Paul K. Pernerewski Jr. for his leadership throughout this response as well as our dedicated Water Department crews, Dayton Construction, Waterbury Public Schools, the Greater Waterbury YMCA, the Health Department, and the many city employees and community partners who worked around the clock to support residents during the disruption. Their teamwork and commitment helped ensure our community remained informed, safe, and cared for every step of the way.
As the system returns to normal, the City will continue monitoring the water distribution system and performing routine flushing in the coming days.
