REP. LESSER APPLAUDS INCREASED GOVERNMENT SPENDING TRANSPARENCY
Rep. Lesser joined State Comptroller Kevin Lembo to announce that Connecticut received an “A” grade in terms of government spending transparency by the Connecticut Public Interest Research Group Education Fund. Last year, Connecticut received a “B,” indicating that the state has made improvements toward full spending transparency in recent years thanks to its online government spending databases made available to the public. REP. LESSER APPOINTED TO JUVENILE JUSTICE AND POLICY OVERSIGHT COMMITTEE
Speaker of the House Brendan Sharkey appointed Rep. Lesser to serve as a member of the committee which was established to evaluate policies related to the juvenile justice system and the expansion of juvenile jurisdiction to include persons sixteen and seventeen years of age. “I look forward to working with the Committee to find innovative and meaningful ways to increase access to youth support services and reduce recidivism,” said Rep. REP. LESSER CALLS FOR STUDENT LOAN BILL OF RIGHTS
The bill establishes a student loan ombudsman to regulate student loan servicers and assist student borrowers and parents in navigating the loan process. If the measure is adopted, Connecticut would be the first state in the country to implement a student loan bill of rights. READ MORE
