Bill Now Awaits Governor's Signature

State Representative Bobby Sanchez (D-New Britain), who co-chairs the legislature's Education Committee, stood on the House floor to guide passage of a school construction bill. The measure, House Bill 7010, which passed early Thursday morning in the House, authorizes millions for three school construction projects in New Britain.

"I am pleased the New Britain school district is slated for these funds and I thank my colleagues for recognizing this request," said Rep. Sanchez. "For these projects, the legislation increases the state's rate of reimbursement to New Britain to 95% of eligible construction costs and greatly reduces any financial burden on the city and taxpayers."

The allocation for New Britain will cover nearly the entire cost for work at three city schools. Pulaski Middle School and Slade Middle School will get new roofs, and Chamberlain Elementary will get some much-needed renovations and upgrades.

"I commend my House colleagues for their support of this legislation which includes school construction projects in other Connecticut cities and towns, and I am equally proud the bill passed moments ago in the Senate. I look forward to Governor Lamont signing the legislation into law to make these funds available."
