Help for Mohegan Sun employees

September 1, 2020

Although Connecticut is doing its best to limit the spread of COVID-19 cases, businesses are still shouldering the economic ramifications of the disease. Mohegan Sun announced that they would lay off previously furloughed employees by the end of September.

Even those who were fortunate enough to keep their jobs also find themselves in a precarious situation. Many employees have been called back at part-time hours, meaning some fail to meet the minimum hour requirement to qualify for benefits while others can not afford health insurance premiums on reduced hours.

Thankfully, there are plenty of options to explore. Per the Access Health CT website, the loss of employer sponsored health insurance is a qualifying life event, thus triggering a special enrollment period for 60 days from loss of coverage.

Additionally, Access Health CT and The Connecticut Department of Labor Rapid Response Team are collaborating to create a series of webinars to help Mohegan Sun employees navigate their loss of health insurance and the next steps in the process.

There will be four sessions in total: Thursday, September 3 at 10:30 a.m. or 2:30 p.m. and Wednesday, September 16 at 10:30 a.m. or 2:30 p.m.
