Rep. Cook Appointed Deputy Speaker of the House

December 3, 2020

I am honored Speaker of the House-designate Matt Ritter (D – Hartford) has appointed me to serve as Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives for the 2021 legislative session which convenes January 6, 2021.

"As the state navigates effects of the pandemic, we will need to make a number of critical decisions. I am confident Michelle's experience, dedication and focus will secure significant relief and progress for Connecticut's families and businesses," said Speaker-designate Ritter.

I am honored to continue serving in this role and to have the privilege of working alongside Speaker-designate Ritter. I look forward to getting back to work this session to advocate for the people of Connecticut, especially during these unprecedented times.

This will be my third term serving as Deputy Speaker.

When the Speaker of the House is absent from the chamber, the Deputy Speaker presides over the House of Representatives, recognizes all members wishing to address the chamber, and puts all questions to vote and directs legislation to the proper committees.
