Grant for Stonington Housing Authority

August 3, 2015

I am happy to announce that Stonington will receive an $800,000 grant that will allow The Stonington Housing Authority to renovate the Edythe K. Richmond Senior Housing Complex. The complex has 60 unites of elderly housing.

I am pleased that we will now be able to bring needed upgrades to this very important part of our community. The Edyth K. Richmond housing complex provides a safe enjoyable place for a number of our elderly residents. This is a good investment that will maintain and improve our neighborhood.

Improvements include:

  • storm doors & windows
  • flooring upgrades
  • bathroom upgrades
  • ADA compliance.

Small Cities Program Awards
The grant is a Community Development Block Grant which comes as part of the state's Small Cities Program Awards. The awards are investments in smaller towns with a population of not more than 50,000 residents. The grants are awarded to the municipalities to facilitate projects that will enhance their communities in a variety of ways, including developing or preserving affordable housing, providing services to the most vulnerable residents in our communities, and creating and retaining jobs.
