Proud To Be A CTLCV Environmental Champion

September 25, 2015

I want to thank the Connecticut League of Conservation Voters for naming me a 2015 champion for the second year in a row. As Chair of the Children's Committee, I recognize that environmental issues are children's issues. We must protect our environment so that our children can enjoy clean air, a healthy Long Island Sound, and open spaces.

Here are some of the environmental measures I supported and advocated for this year:

  • Protecting kids from harmful pesticides
    • Banned their use on municipal playgrounds
    • Now require public notification at least 24 hours prior to the emergency application of pesticides on school grounds or municipal playgrounds.
  • Ban on plastic microbeads
    • Banned the import and sale of products containing plastic microbeads in Connecticut
    • Microbeads are small plastic components found in some cosmetics products that are not biodegradable and pollute the environment.
  • Chemicals of high concern to kids
    • I will continue to work on this issue.
    • Read about some of work on chemicals of high concern to kids here.

The Connecticut League of Conservation Voters works to pass pro-environment laws, elect pro-environment candidates, and hold all elected officials accountable. CTLCV Scorecards dating back to 2000 can be found online at www.ctlcv.org.
