Having a bill pass the House unanimously is a team effort. Yesterday, I was happy to lead the discussion along with P&D ranking member Representative Zullo for passage of HB 6610 An Act Concerning the Provisions of Outdoor Food and Beverage Service by Restaurants. As Ken Dixon noted so well his CT Post article, “The bill would let cities and towns close off streets and sidewalks, and food and drink services expedite bureaucratic obstacles, including time-consuming zoning requirements and special-event permits from the state Department of Transportation. It continues social distancing and mask guidelines.” The provisions of the bill are set to expire in March of 2022.
It’s a thrill to be a part of an effort to help our restaurants, which have been severely impacted by COVID to survive, recover and hopefully thrive.
Specifically regarding the team effort, the Governor’s office and legislative attorneys, along with the Connecticut Restaurant Association, the leaders of the legislature’s Commerce and General Law Committees, the Main Street Working Group, co-chaired by Rep. Leeper, colleagues in the legislature, and our Connecticut Department of Economic and Community Development Commissioner David Lehman all worked together to assure this option was available to our restaurants. |
