August 31, 2021

The clothing was collected Saturday, August 28, at the West Side Middle School in Waterbury and included suits, dresses, shirts, ties, footwear, and accessories for both men and women.

"Waterbury is one of the most patriotic cities in the nation," said Rep. Napoli. "Our city has an estimated 4,000-6,000 veterans and we appreciate the dedication and sacrifices they have made to protect and preserve our democratic principles. The Waterbury community came out in large numbers to donate clothing for veterans seeking employment. Looking professional during an interview can boost a job applicant's self-confidence. One of the many reasons I love Waterbury and it’s people is their dedicated support of our veterans. I thank the entire state delegation for their efforts in making our suit drive a success!"

"The suit drive for the veterans was an overwhelming success," said Rep. Butler. "It was great to see so many people come out and make these much-needed donations. I would like to thank everyone who made donations as well as my Waterbury General Assembly Colleagues who worked together on behalf of our veterans!"

"The Waterbury community outperformed at our suit drive for veterans this weekend," Rep. Reyes said. "We received over 500 donations that will all help local vets on the job hunt. I am both honored and proud to be a part of such a generous community that understands the sacrifices veterans have made and continue to make for our home. Thank you to all who donated, and please continue to find other ways you can help local veteran causes."

"Waterbury is truly a community that stands behind its veterans and those currently serving our country," Rep. DiGiovancarlo said. "During Saturday’s suit drive, we collected over 500 pieces of professional clothing from a number of outstanding community members looking to help our local vets secure new jobs. The magnitude of donations we received is a testament to the selflessness I love most about Waterbury locals. Thank you again to all who donated."

A big thanks to Veterans' Affairs Commissioner Thomas Saadi for his support of our clothing drive. And thanks to Save A Suit in Bethel for cleaning and preparing the collected clothing for distribution to veterans throughout Connecticut.
