Upcoming Vaccine Drive, Mattress Recycling & Food Drive

September 16, 2021
My prayers and best wishes to all who are celebrating Yom Kippur today. There are a few important events coming up this weekend - all ways we can keep our community healthy, safe, and strong.
Fairfield Fire Department COVID Vaccine Clinics

The Fairfield Fire Department is partnering with the Fairfield Health Department and Griffin Hospital to host COVID Vaccine clinics to make vaccination easy and available to all.

Upcoming Clinics:

  • Saturday, September 18th from 10AM - 5PM at 140 Reef Rd Fire Station
  • Sunday, September 19th from 10AM - 5PM at the 600 Jennings Rd Fire Station.
Fairfield Fire Department asks everyone to “know the fact and get vaxxed” it is easy safe and free. No appointments are necessary.

Please bring a health insurance card and photo ID if you have them, but it is not necessary to have health insurance or ID to receive the vaccine. No one will be turned away for lack of insurance or ID.

Vaccines and Vaccine Records

Please also find a few resources below regarding the COVID vaccine:

  • To find out where you can get the vaccine text your zip code to GETVAX or go check out hundreds of locations near you.
  • Booster shots are now available for certain eligible residents who are moderately or severely immunocompromised. The federal rollout will begin this Monday, September 20th, meanwhile the CT Department of Public Health is in communication with vaccine providers. The CDC webpage has more specific information and links to additional information, including their section on considerations for use of an additional dose.
  • If you have lost your vaccine card, first check with the clinic who administered your vaccine to see if they can issue a replacement. The CT Department of Public Health (DPH) cannot issue a card to recipients, but they can issue the immunization record from CT WiZ. DPH’s procedure is on their COVID Vaccine and DPH Immunization webpages at: I lost my vaccine card, how do I get another one? and Request an Official Immunization Record.
  • Adults can now access their vaccination records and those of their minor children via CT WiZ Public Portal. The CT Wiz system has been in place for over 27 years to track childhood vaccines and is now a great way for both healthcare providers to access vaccination history and individuals to directly access their personal information.
Mattress Recycling

This Saturday, September 18th from 9AM - 1PM, Sustainable Fairfield is hosting a FREE mattress recycling collection event.

More than 75% of mattress and box spring components can be recycled in lieu of being incinerated, which costs the town money and residents who must pay a fee to drop off at the Transfer Station. This is both a great way to save money while protecting our planet!

It is open to all residents of CT (not just Fairfielders).

Operation Hope Food Drive

Also on Saturday, September 18th, Operation Hope will host their 2nd Annual Really Big Food Drive to help fill their pantry shelves in time for the fall. The drive will take place from 11AM - 3PM on Saturday behind the lot of Operation Hope and First Church Congregational, 148 Beach Road. Donate, drop off and do good! All volunteers will be practicing social distancing and wearing masks, they encourage donors and guests to do the same.
