The grant will fund significant upgrades to the station, including an ADA-compliant raised platform, ticket kiosk, security cameras and other modern platform amenities, increased bus service, enhanced bus and rail amenities, improved bicycle and pedestrian safety and connectivity to downtown Derby and the Naugatuck Valley Greenway trails. It will also support new electric bus and car charging stations. You can read more about this project here.
This builds upon our recent legislative win at the state level to secure more than $1.2 million annually in new funding in the state budget for the addition of seven trains daily, increasing weekday service.
The Waterbury Branch Line is an economic driver for the Naugatuck Valley and will draw not only riders and residents but also developers, businesses, and jobs. This grant to modernize the station and transportation hub will have an impact well beyond the station itself for the Valley.
A huge thank you to U.S. Senator Chris Murphy, U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal, and Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro for delivering on this funding. Also, a sincere thank you to Governor Ned Lamont for his continued support of the Waterbury Branch Line.
A thank you to my colleagues in the Derby delegation for being excellent partners in the efforts for the Waterbury Rail Line and economic revitalization of the Valley. This is a game changer for Derby and the Lower Valley! |
