Rep. Paris Appointed to the Appropriations Committee

January 10, 2022

Speaker of the House Matt Ritter (D – Hartford) has tapped State Representative Corey P. Paris (D – Stamford) to serve on the Connecticut General Assembly's powerful Appropriations Committee.

"As one of the newest members of the state House of Representatives, Corey has demonstrated a strong commitment to smart fiscal policy and has a keen understanding of the challenges many Connecticut families face," said Speaker Ritter. "Corey has proven himself to be a strong voice in the caucus and I am confident he has the experience and focus to develop innovative solutions that will build on our fiscal progress to move Connecticut forward."

"I am honored Speaker Ritter has given me the opportunity to serve in this new role to help shape a positive financial future for our state. Connecticut has made significant strides over the past several years that have aided our recovery from the pandemic. I am eager to get to work to keep our state on stable financial footing while investing in our residents and communities," said Rep. Paris.

Rep. Paris will be reassigned from the Finance, Revenue & Bonding Committee to the Appropriations Committee. He will continue serving on the Education Committee and Planning & Development Committee.

As a member of the legislature's Finance Committee, Rep. Paris assisted in passing the state's $46.6 billion biennium budget during the 2021 legislative session. The budget rejected tax raises, invested in towns and cities, maintained Connecticut's historic rainy-day fund, and supported small businesses and minority-owned businesses without leaving families behind.

During the 2021 session, Rep. Paris also passionately advocated for the passage of legislation to expand access to early childhood care and education, increase pay transparency, and address the harmful effects of racism on public health.

Rep. Paris was sworn in to the Connecticut General Assembly in May 2021 following an April special election for the 145th Assembly District seat, formerly held by state Senator Pat Billie Miller for 12 years.
